About Archer
Headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, Archer is a leader in the next-generation aerospace sector. We are building an end-to-end advanced air mobility platform that delivers air taxis, unmanned aircraft systems, aviation-related physical artificial intelligence solutions and other technologies to commercial aerospace and defence customers worldwide.
Our ambitions are high and our problems are hard. We believe workplace diversity makes us smarter, drives better insight and helps us succeed. We are dedicated to creating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces differences, supports and celebrates every team member.
Archer is best known for Midnight, our electric air taxi. This role is not part of that programme.
The AI Products organisation is building consumer software for people who love to fly: mobile apps, websites and web apps for flyers, flight enthusiasts and pilots.
We have not announced what we are building, and we will not spoil it in a job posting. What we can share is that it is a consumer app with a large user base, and the design decisions made in the next year will define the product’s next chapter of growth.
That is why we are hiring a UX Product Designer: someone who has shipped consumer apps that real people download, rate and decide to keep or delete, and who can take a loosely defined problem and develop something worth building.
What you will do
Lead end-to-end product design for consumer aviation apps on iOS and Android, alongside the supporting websites and web apps.
Design for a wide range of users, from casual flyers and aviation enthusiasts to working pilots who need fast, accurate and trustworthy information.
Run product explorations by sketching directions, pressure-testing them with users and the team, and ending weaker approaches early.
Take ownership of design leadership for your projects, with context and constraints from Design Leadership, Product Management and Engineering.
Ship to the App Store and Google Play, then refine experiences using analytics, experiments, reviews and user research.
Raise the bar for craft across the organisation through your own work and feedback on the work of others.
What you need
At least five years of Product Design experience.
A track record of shipping features for consumer mobile apps on the App Store and Google Play, ideally at a start-up, big technology company or both.
Experience designing products that are live and in users’ hands. We will ask you in detail about your decisions, what you got wrong and what you would change.
Deep fluency in native iOS and Android design, including Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design, and strong systems thinking across mobile and web.
Sound judgement on when design patterns should be shared across platforms and when they should differ.
Experience using data to inform design decisions, from engagement and retention metrics to App Store feedback.
Comfort working with ambiguity. This role will not be a fit if you need a fully scoped ticket before you can begin.
A portfolio that demonstrates your thinking, not only polished final screens.
Bonus qualifications
You are a pilot, student pilot, plane spotter or aviation enthusiast. You would be designing for people like you, and that matters.
Experience designing consumer apps built around real-time data, maps or location.
Experience growing a consumer app through onboarding, retention, subscriptions, monetisation, social posting or marketing collateral.
Experience working with AI or machine-learning teams, or designing products with AI-driven features.
Experience shipping consumer products in domains with real-world constraints, such as regulated, safety-adjacent or hardware-adjacent industries.
About the team
AI Products is a software organisation of roughly 100 people within a wider company of aerospace Engineers. We expect to grow substantially over the next year.
You will benefit from the resources and momentum of an established organisation while working in the product-development culture of a smaller team based in the UK, building for an audience that genuinely cares about flying.
If you want to hear more about what we are building before applying, you cannot. Apply, and we will tell you plenty.
