The Role

We’re looking for an Interaction Designer to join our multidisciplinary team, designing and delivering innovative, user-centred digital public services for Government and private-sector clients.

You’ll be a great listener and communicator, with a creative, structured and logical approach to understanding problems and designing inclusive, human-centred experiences.

We’re specifically looking for a pragmatic team player with an appreciation of both business and user needs, who is keen to develop their T-shaped skills and is not afraid to take on new challenges.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience and knowledge of using the GOV.UK Prototype Kit, design systems and design patterns.

  • Proven experience understanding and ensuring usability, accessibility and inclusivity in line with WCAG and GOV.UK design guidelines.

  • Practical experience working to the Government Service Standard, ideally including service assessment experience across all phases.

  • Ability to design simple, intuitive and accessible digital services that meet user needs and business objectives.

  • Ability to take an end-to-end view of services, creating effective, user-centred interactions across channels.

  • Experience participating in user research activities and using qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform design decisions and service improvements.

  • Ability to rapidly prototype and test designs using a range of methods, including paper, digital and code-based prototypes.

  • Ability to produce clear interaction design artefacts, including sketches, user flows, scenarios, wireframes, journey maps and prototypes.

  • Ability to capture and communicate design decisions clearly and confidently, influencing stakeholders and colleagues with a strong evidence base.

  • Experience facilitating workshops, co-design sessions and user testing to explore problems, generate ideas and validate solutions.

  • Experience working collaboratively within agile, multidisciplinary teams alongside Developers, Researchers, Product Managers and stakeholders to deliver effective services.

  • Experience contributing to design standards and design systems, maintaining consistency across services and interfaces.

  • Ability to support service transformation by improving the efficiency, speed and usability of public services.

Communication and Productivity

  • Excellent verbal, written and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong technical literacy, with the ability to understand high-level technical processes, constraints and concepts.

  • Ability to recognise and work within project constraints, supporting teams to deliver value to clients and users.

  • Ability to support and coach teams and stakeholders in user-centred design and agile ways of working.

  • Willingness to contribute to internal culture, tools, processes and capability development.

The ideal candidate will share our values and ways of working. As your career progresses, you can expect to work across all stages of the development lifecycle, from strategy to implementation, and take assignments across different sectors. This provides a broad base of experience for building an outstanding career.

Candidates should be open to working in different locations for different clients. While most work is remote, you should be happy to meet in our London office and travel as client needs dictate.
