Senior UX Designer

Thomson Reuters

London E14 5AQ

We are currently seeking a curious and empathic Senior UX Designer with strong UX and UI skills, with a demonstrable history of bringing design thinking insight to deliver compelling user experiences and user interfaces. The role sits within the Product organization responsible for the content production and customer experience driving the world's most trusted news organization, Reuters News.

As a Senior UX Designer you will work in an agile environment as part of a global cross-functional team including other designers, engineering and product owners, as well as users and senior stakeholders across the business. A flexible mindset and the ability to advocate for UX best practices while also working towards existing deliverable deadlines is a must.

Your primary role will be to understand user needs and build user-centred design workflows, prototypes, UI and associated deliverables for our assets across our product portfolio, focusing on key Content Production tools powering our global newsroom.

About the Role

As a Senior User Experience Designer, you will:

  • Lead designs across your product area, with hands-on UX and UI work.

  • Ensure that the user voice and product vision are embedded across your work, and that work is prioritized with trade-offs recommended based on user and business value.

  • Work hand in hand with design leadership and other team members to remove roadblocks as needed, and inform decision-making across the rest of the team through ambiguity, ensuring decisions are grounded in data and UX best practices.

  • Manage your own work and project tasks across the product area, as well as delegate to other FTE and contract team members where necessary.

  • Collaborate closely and partner regularly with design team counterparts across Reuters Digital products.

  • Mentor junior team members across the design organisation.

  • Partner with the Research, Product and Engineering teams to drive clarity in product needs by helping define missing use cases, user stories and influence the overall solution.

  • Articulate a compelling vision for users across your projects.

  • Create and facilitate technically and financially feasible integrated design decisions and solutions.

  • Partner closely and collaborate with the UX Research team to help identify iterative improvements across your product area.

About you

To be our Senior User Experience Designer, you will have:

  • 6+ years of application/product design experience

  • 1+ years in a senior or similar role

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in UX/HCI or related field, or significant equivalent experience.

  • A thorough understanding and working knowledge of UX & Accessibility best practices, UXR methods, service design and design systems.

  • Confident in facilitating UX and design thinking-led workshops for key stakeholders across the business.

  • Experience working with design systems, design tokens and atomic design principles

  • A robust portfolio of previous product design work that illustrates hands-on work as well as work created as a team. A portfolio that showcases a proven track record of solving complex design problems with design-led thinking that exhibits a clean, polished design aesthetic coupled with a passion for accessibility, consistency, and usability.

  • Experience in designing and defining UI specifications. An ability to build UIs that are ready to hand over to development teams is essential.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience interfacing with a broad range of stakeholders.

  • Understand the importance of teamwork and can leave your ego at the door.

  • A willingness to grow with the role and make it your own.

  • Comfortable working in a complex and dynamic environment, juggling multiple priorities, and interacting with people at all levels of the organization and across multiple functions.
