The ResearchOps Community grew from #WhatisResearchOps: dozens of workshops worldwide plus a survey reaching hundreds of researchers. Kate shares what the Community learned and the first framework iteration, speaking for TeamReOps organisers.

Methods
Workshop FacilitationWorkshop facilitation guides a group towards a shared outcome without imposing the facilitator’s preferred answer. Define the purpose, prepare activities and materials, and create opportunities for everyone to contribute. Combine individual thinking with discussion when helpful, listen for different perspectives and adjust the plan to the group’s needs. Record decisions and clarify who will take the next steps. Use facilitation when a team must explore a problem, generate ideas or agree actions together; successful participation matters as much as the visible workshop outputs.
Insight SynthesisTurning raw notes, clips and data into shared findings — affinity mapping, themes, opportunity areas — so research informs decisions rather than sitting unused.
SurveysStructured questionnaires at scale to gather attitudes, satisfaction and self-reported behaviour. Useful for breadth and tracking when combined with behavioural research.
Participant RecruitmentParticipant recruitment finds people whose experience can answer the study’s research questions. Define the relevant user groups and screening criteria before choosing channels such as existing customers, specialist organisations or recruitment agencies. Include people with different access needs, and arrange suitable communication, locations and support. Explain the study, obtain informed consent and schedule participation without pressure. Use recruitment planning before interviews, observation or testing; selecting convenient colleagues can produce findings that poorly represent the people a service must support.
