The role
We have a new opportunity for an experienced Product Designer to join our Digital Channels team, part of the wider Brand department here at Penguin. This role is offered on a permanent basis in London, with hybrid working (2 days per week in the office). In this exciting role, you’ll take the lead in creating a seamless and efficient user experience for the digital estate of Penguin websites, leveraging user-centred design principles and continuously improving user journeys and capabilities. From concept to launch, you’ll design new features and digital initiatives, producing engaging experiences that also drive meaningful results in line with our business goals. This is a key standalone role within a collaborative team, offering the opportunity to make your mark within the Digital Channels space and elevate the digital presence of a globally beloved brand. You’ll be a champion for maintaining design standards, brand guidelines and accessibility standards across our Penguin channels.
Key responsibilities
Creating and optimising the user experience for our websites, translating business requirements into conceptual designs.
Produce conceptual diagrams, user flows, wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes to communicate high-level design ideas to stakeholders.
Work collaboratively within sprints with digital channel managers, content editors, developers, analytics professionals and testers to conceptualise, launch, test, and iterate user journeys.
Complete re-designs for full websites, sections, and components focused on driving commercial and brand metrics, including sales conversion and NPS.
Set and implement the design standards in all areas of UI online, defining UI patterns to be used across all sites, maintaining and evolving our design system and acting as a guardian for the user experience online.
Ensure adherence to brand guidelines, accessibility standards and SEO best practice.
Conduct user research and usability testing in collaboration with the Insights team, creating user personas, storyboards and flowcharts, and advising on best practice, documentation creation and session implementation.
Working in collaboration with the CRO Lead, design frequent A/B, multi-variate and personalisation tests.
Mentor less experienced team members and help software developers understand and execute ideas.
Analyse customer behaviours and use data to troubleshoot solutions.
Conduct competitive analysis of other digital channels operating in the same space.
Ensure designs work across all browsers on all devices, championing a mobile-first methodology.
What you’ll bring
Essential criteria
Proven experience in a Product Designer, UX/UI Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates you are able to work from research, conceptualisation, design to delivery.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate the rationale behind your design decisions and influence key stakeholders.
Experience using data tools like Adobe Analytics to inform your design decisions.
Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture.
Proficient in design software (eg Figma).
Experience working in an Agile environment with developers.
Experience maintaining and evolving design systems.
Analytical mind with a business acumen and problem-solving aptitude.
Excellent organisational skills with ability to prioritise an evolving workload.
Ability and willingness to commit to our hybrid working model below.

Salary
£45,000-£50,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus scheme and benefits.
Hybrid working
While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will work from the Embassy Gardens office in London 2 days per week (Tuesday & Thursday).
