  • Proposed salary range: £40,500 - £50,000 plus London Weight Allowance £5,319 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the role

We’re seeking a User Researcher to join our UX&D team at BBC Studios. In this solo role, you’ll collaborate with UX designers, service designers, and product teams to plan and conduct research that uncovers user needs across a wide range of digital products and services. You’ll be part of a supportive UX team that values research deeply, and your work will help shape and advance our research practice across the organisation, driving meaningful improvements in user experience.

Your key responsibilities and impact

  • Design and conduct the end-to-end research process — from writing scripts, recruiting participants, moderating sessions, to synthesising and presenting results.

  • Collaborate closely with service designers and UX designers to align research efforts with project goals.

  • Create compelling research reports that synthesise and analyse findings into personas, insight packs and deliverables. Translate research findings into clear, actionable insights that inform service and product development.

  • Providing guidance about research methods and tools, promoting high standards and best practice across the team

  • Help improve internal processes for recruiting participants from within BBC Studios, including inclusive practices for accessibility needs.

  • Plan, design, and execute user research and usability testing to explore and validate user needs, behaviours, pain points and motivations.

Your skills & Experience 

Essential Criteria

  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including user interviews, usability testing, surveys, diary studies, and contextual inquiry.

  • Experience at conducting user research at every stage of service design and product development to inform and improve outcomes.

  • Experienced in creating high-impact research deliverables  and proven experience in managing multiple concurrent projects.

  • Skilled in using testing tools, with hands-on experience in platforms like UserTesting.com and Askable.

  • Experience in partnering with cross functional teams—including UX, service design, and product.

Desired but not required

  • Previous experience working within media, broadcasting or entertainment sectors.

  • Familiarity with service design methodologies.

  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices and inclusive research approaches.

  • Enthusiastic about mentoring or guiding others in the team to improve research fluency.
