About the Role

As the Vice President of User Experience, Research, and Design within the Academic and Government sector at Elsevier, you will lead a dynamic team. You will be responsible for shaping the digital experience of our users across our diverse portfolio of products and services. You will leverage your expertise in UX/UI design, user research, and design strategy. You will drive initiatives to enhance user satisfaction, engagement, and loyalty.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing a comprehensive UX, research, and design strategy, aligned with business objectives and user needs

  • Leading and mentoring a global, multidisciplinary team of UX/UI designers, researchers, and design strategists. Fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Optimizing the organizational structure, roles, and responsibilities to ensure alignment with business goals.

  • Overseeing the planning, execution, and analysis of user research activities, including usability testing, interviews, surveys, and ethnographic studies. Gaining deep insights into user behaviour, preferences, and pain points.

  • Driving the conceptualization, prototyping, and design of intuitive, visually appealing user interfaces. Optimizing user engagement, accessibility, and satisfaction.

  • Establishing and maintaining robust design systems and guidelines to ensure consistency and coherence across all digital touch-points. Enhancing brand recognition and user experience.

  • Collaborating closely with product management, engineering, marketing, and content teams to integrate user-centered design principles into the product development lifecycle. Delivering seamless, end-to-end experiences.

  • Utilizing quantitative and qualitative data, analytics, and user feedback to inform design decisions and iterate on existing solutions.

  • Building effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, advocating for user-centric design principles. Fostering a shared understanding of the importance of UX, research, and design.

Requirements

  • Possess depth of experience in UX/UI design, user research, and design leadership roles, in a technology-driven organization.

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of successfully leading high-performing teams and delivering impactful UX/UI solutions that drive business results. Experience driving continuous improvement.

  • Possess deep expertise in user-centered design principles, methodologies, and tools, including design thinking, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

  • Demonstrate dynamic analytical skills and the ability to translate complex user insights into actionable design recommendations and strategic initiatives.

  • Have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Have the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.

  • Have experience managing departmental budgets effectively, allocating resources strategically to maximize ROI and achieve business objectives.

  • Demonstrate keen knowledge of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in UX, research, and design. Champion innovative approaches to drive differentiation and market leadership.

  • Demonstrate experience of championing initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and well-being.
