The Role 🛼

We are looking for a Product Designer to join us! This standalone role will demand high levels of collaboration, as you will be involved in every aspect of the product development process. From brainstorming our next great product innovation to tweaking a few pixels right before launch, you will be expected to utilise your full range of product, interaction, and visual design skills. You'll need to feel comfortable taking ownership and pushing projects forward, as well as giving and receiving feedback, and operating as a true team player. 

You will report to the Product Manager whilst collaborating with our Engineers and Creatives to bring designs to life. Our audience is career-conscious young people aged 16-24, comprised of mostly school leavers and university students. Our mission is to inspire those young people to take the first steps in their careers.

Core Responsibilities 🍏

Product Design

  • Shaping and refining requirements for new features and journeys

  • Develop a deep understanding of our target users and their needs to help create intuitive and engaging website features.

  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to visualize and test design concepts. That considers SEO, CSS, and HTML implementation and accessibility.

  • Communicate and rationalise design intent with stakeholders, and gather feedback throughout the design process

  • Develop creative UI designs that incorporate interaction, animation, visual concepts, typography, and imagery.

  • Working with and maintaining design systems and component libraries.

  • Create detailed design specifications, guidelines, and documentation for developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.

  • Collaborating closely with front/back-end engineers

You are right for this role if you have the following skills ✅

Non-technical

  • A good understanding of the English language (both spoken and written)

  • The ability to present designs and solutions to stakeholders

  • Experience using and regularly updating JIRA or other project management tools

Product and UX

  • Experience in building out brand and design language

  • 5+ years in digital experience or UI design across a number of projects

  • Expert in tools such as Figma and other modern design tooling

  • Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into implementable wireframes and prototypes

  • Design user journeys and experiences that are simple and solve the core objectives of each feature

  • Experience implementing and maintaining a component design system that builds on the product brand guidelines

  • Maintaining documentation and integrating it into the design and development process

Other Technical

  • Demonstrate and provide examples of products you have developed through the whole development cycle including requirements gathering, prototyping/wireframing, implementation, deployment, and maintenance

  • Confident discussing technical details and being able to make suggestions to improve existing projects and processes, as well as give suggestions and advice to others

  • Interest in keeping up to date with the latest technical advancements and knowing when to apply them

  • Writing semantic HTML

  • Writing maintainable CSS via Sass or similar

Amazing (but not essential) if you are able to 💭

  • Maintain and extend a CSS codebase across a large site

  • Use CSS frameworks such as Bulma or Tailwind in a production setting

  • Collaborate with backend developers on API structure and functionality

  • Are familiar with Vue.js

Hybrid working ✨

We have a hybrid work set-up, whereby you'll be expected to work from our office in Brixton a minimum of 2 days per month, with more time encouraged. If you need more flexibility than this, please apply and if you're successful we can try and accommodate your request.

Salary 💰

Starting between £50,000 - £55,000 per annum depending on experience.
